A Peek Into the Future of Electronics

When you think about how long some technological advances in electronics have been around, it turns out to be a lot less time than you think. For example, DVDs have been around for approximately eight years. It’s certainly an indication of how quickly we’ve all become used to new innovations in technology. By the same token, there are still plenty more technological gadgets and advances that aren’t available to the general public, and yet we will all quickly acclimate to them.

CD’s used to be the only way we could listen to music but nowadays there are many different forms of media from music to movies.  Free downloadable software like Handbrake, Xvid and Virtual Dub, now allow us to view and listen to multiple forms of media. These programs can convert a media file to any format and you can even transfer your music or movies to your mobile device in many cases.

Another new innovation is , VoIP, an acronym for Voice over Internet Protocol, and is one of those technological gadgets that is fairly new to the market, and yet people are quickly becoming aware of it due to advertising and marketing. It’s fairly common to hear someone in the office whistling the new VoIP commercial from television or radio.

One of the biggest advantages of VoIp (other than interesting commercials) is the low cost offered by many providers. The Voice over Internet Protocol companies are doing their best to win your business by slashing their prices. In addition, the concept of VoIp also renders the idea of long distance obsolete.

Since VoIP uses the Internet to make phone calls, there are no long distance calls. It doesn’t really matter whether you call your aunt in Hawaii or your neighbor down the street; the cost is the same, saving you a significant amount of money on your monthly phone bill. As a VoIp customer, all you really need is a computer and a high-speed Internet connection. You can also purchase an unlimited number of minutes.

Another familiar technology in the U.S. is called Broadband over Power Line (or BPL). Put simply, BPL is the implementation of broadband Internet service over traditional power lines. With this fairly new technology, users connect their computers to a modem that plugs into an electrical outlet.

The two technologies are fairly new, however both are certainly becoming a common household term
